Purchasing a new rolling stock
Funds appointed to project:
The project was due to the need to purchase electric trains that are economical, more environmentally friendly and meet contemporary European requirements, and the objective was to ensure the continuation of passenger transport with electric trains in Tallinn and the vicinity of Tallinn. 18 new electric trains were purchased, replacing the entire current fleet of rolling stock that had come to the end of its life. This ensured the continuation of electric train traffic that meets the demand and order of the Estonian state. Implementing the project created a qualitatively new level for servicing passengers in the service area of Elektriraudtee AS and thereby increased the number of passengers travelling with electric trains. In one month, the entire old fleet of rolling stock was replaced, and new contemporary fast and quiet FLIRT-type electric trains with all modern conveniences were given to the use of passengers by August 2013.
Results of Project
- 18 new electric trains.
- 20 new diesel trains.
- Speed and convenience – thanks to new contemporary trains it is possible to offer public passenger transport with smaller operating costs and more quality, offering a shorter travel time and modern conveniences such as air conditioning, toilet and bicycle rack to passengers, trains are also accessible to passengers in wheelchairs.
- Environmental sustainability – new electric trains are approx. 30% more energy-efficient, because they are lighter and consume less energy.
- 65% more passengers – the number of passengers travelling with electric trains has increased significantly.
Improving The environmental condition and increasing flight safety of the air traffic area of Tallinn Airport
Funds appointed to project:
The objective of the development project is to increase the level of flight safety of Tallinn Airport, intensify the environmentally sustainable and effective operation of the airport and alleviate the negative effect of the airport infrastructure on the surrounding environment through improving the airport’s environmental status.
Results of Project
- Environmentally protective infrastructure systems and facilities that significantly improve the safety, efficiency and environmental sustainability of operating Tallinn Airport are to be established in the eastern and southern side of the air traffic area of the airport.
- Establishing rainwater and drainage systems, snow collection areas and deicing area is accompanied by a decrease in environmental impacts (pollution of surface and ground water).
- The updated lights system of the airport enables implementing the CAT II navigation system category at Tallinn Airport.
- Changes in reinforcing the ground of the safety zone of the runaway and implementing a new lights system enables complying with the EASA requirements established for the airport infrastructure. Purchasing maintenance technology and rescue technology for the runway enables more efficient maintenance of the reconstructed and supplemented infrastructure.
- As a result of elongating the runway, it is possible to direct the take-off and landing of airplanes further away from the border of Lake Ülemiste and increase the height of landing airplanes above the city of Tallinn and Lake Ülemiste, thereby decreasing noise pollution in the nearby areas.
